guddi: Guddi is 16 years old.
She lives in Ghatananwadi village in the state of Rajasthan in India.
She doesn't go to school becuase she has to work in the field every day and cook for her family.
She got married at 14 and preparations were being made for her to join her husband. At this time, a local charity MAMTA started a night school, run by an elder in the village. Here, Guddi learnt about her legal rights not to marry before she was 18. Guddi persuaded her parents to delay her 'gona' - the period of time between getting married and joining her husband. Challenging generations of tradition, she was able to delay consummation of marriage and avoid the risks of early childbearing. As UNICEF describe: "Adolescents aged 15 to 19 are twice as likely to die during pregnancy or childbirth as those over 20, girls under 15 are 5 times more likely to die."
Here she describes her daily routine: "In the morning, I wake up and milk the goats, make the tea and give everyone a cup, feed the cattle, then take the buffalo dung and make the dung cakes, then sweep the house. Then I go to the field, irrigate the fields, collect the vegetables. Then I make lunhc and then take care of the cattle - water and feed them. Then I make and eat dinner of roti and vegetable, go to night school and then go to bed."
She does this every day.
